Exceeding Limits (Leaving your comfort zone)

Phaytea’s Pulse is participating in the #AtoZChallenge for 2017. The Theme is ‘Awakening of Self’ and ‘Exceeding Limits (Leaving your comfort zone)’ is our entry for letter E. The theme focuses on character traits that will gear us towards Meaningful Living and will run for 26 days in April except sundays. Please stop by the blog everyday for subsequent posts as we read the 26 letters of the alphabet together. Enjoy!!☺☺

While thinking about content for this topic, I thought for a bit, what kind of ‘urge’ makes people exceed the authorized speed limit?
I will say discomfort or maybe impatience but there a lot of other human factors that can be controlled.

This post is not about exceeding speed limit but about channeling that ‘urge’ we get for change into doing something that is beneficial to us and our goals.

A number of us restrict ourselves to routines, we like to do the same thing over and over, we have the year planned out without a new experience, we create a wall around our activities and limit ourself to those wall.

You know, i totally understand because it is actually comfortable staying within a familiar territory when we have always achieved success following the same routine, we know how to overcome difficulties within that wall we created, we feel secure, we are familiar with the scopes and tricks, embracing change is a lot of work and God knows we do not want the stress that comes with transitioning.

The truth is, it is usually difficult to embrace change especially if it involves leaving a memory we love and we are comfortable with. Twenty posts ago, I shared a story on beautiful memories and change about how spending the weekend with parents brought back beautiful memories as a ‘miss’. I loved that i got to sleep in my old room but i also loved that i was open to creating new beautiful memories in my new space. You can read the article to find out more about how we can embrace change.

Comfort zone

Regardless of the comfort and stability within a comfort zone, a successful person should always desire growth and expansion. Our desire for growth in areas of our life should make us leave our comfort zone because:

  • We deserve the best
  • We can be exposed to new opportunities
  • We learn new things and get new ideas
  • We can expand our brand
  • Who really can turn down the chance to create new beautiful memories?

We definitely need to engage in new activities that will be of benefit to our career, family goals, lifestyle or business.

Our drive to live a meaningful life and fulfil personal goals should push us to exceed current limits. It should push us out of our comfort zone and make us uncomfortable enough to conquer our fears/doubt.

However, like every other thing in life, exceeding current limits requires preparation. This post about pushing the envelope will help us plan towards leaving our comfort zone. It talks about accepting a challenge, being interested, resisting fear, equipping yourself and launching. Here are more pointers:

  1. Do not just dive into a new project
  2. Be uncomfortable with you current performance.
  3. Research
  4. Find a conviction to move forward
  5. Find out the benefits of the new project.
  6. Be broad-minded.

  1. I totally agree with you sometime embracing change and doing things that are different from our regular routines can be good for us. Often then not, decisions made on impulse or unplanned can turn out the best.
